Preface

Comprehensive knowledge of neuroanatomy is critical to excellence in neurosurgery. Thus, the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) administers the Neuroanatomy Exam in July of the PGY2 year. The test consists of 100 mostly fill-in-the-blank neuroanatomy questions with content derived from three sources: The “Top 100” images of surgical anatomy dissections by Dr. Albert Rhoton Jr., Neuroanatomy Text and Atlas 4th edition by Dr. John Martin, and Aids to the Examination of the Peripheral Nervous System 5th edition by Dr. Michael O’Brien on behalf of the Guarantors of Brain. More information about the exam can be found on the ABNS website.

The following Neurosurgical Atlas chapters contain all studying material for the ABNS Neuroanatomy Exam. A content breakdown of the 100 questions, source materials, and corresponding Neurosurgical Atlas chapters is provided in the table below. We hope that this collection serves as an easily accessible learning resource that will aid you on your journey towards neuroanatomical mastery.

We sincerely thank Sarah Merrill and Gina Watanabe for their incredible efforts to make this resource possible.
